Accepting Jesus

Writer: Rick AdelmannRick Adelmann

John 3:15-17 'That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but the world through Him might be saved.'

God made the supreme sacrifice by allowing His Son to die in our place to atone for our sins. He wiped the plate clean for those of us who accept Jesus as our savior.

John 3:3 says, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'

After accepting his salvation and asking the Holy Spirit into our hearts, we are 'born again.' If we repent of our sins, He will forgive us. All our sins, past, present, and future are forgiven, and we start afresh with new lives dedicated to Jesus. We ask for His forgiveness and can be assured that He will forgive, we ask for His aid in living a new life, and He is there for us. His gift of eternal life after His return is a free gift; we don't have to do anything to achieve it but continue to ask forgiveness of our sins and repent of these sins.

As the bumper sticker says, "Christians are not perfect, just forgiven." We are still human and can accidentally sin or allow the natural world to push us in the wrong direction, but we can repent, ask forgiveness, and know that our heavenly Father will forgive and take us back. Jesus is alive and living in the believer's heart as the Holy Spirit and will guide us through life as long as we listen to His voice.
